Union, N.J. (2/21/25) – CJ Tomalavage smashed his first homer of the season, helping the Kean University baseball team secure a 5-2 victory over Mitchell College on Friday afternoon.
How It Happened:
Early in the game, the Cougars (3-0) found themselves trailing 1-0 after Chas Terni Jr. hit a solo home run for the Mariners (0-1).
Kean evened the score in the fifth inning. Dominic Masino hit a single that brought Dan Reistle home, who had reached base with a two-out hit.
The Cougars took control in the sixth. Kyle Adorno started with a single, and Tyler Stone followed with a walk, putting runners on the corners. Then, Tomalavage hit a three-run home run to left-center, giving Kean a 4-1 lead.
In the seventh inning, Mitchell responded with a blast from Thai-ler Sestokas, narrowing the gap to 4-2.
Kean added an extra run later in the seventh. Stone hit a sacrifice fly, bringing Justin Teixeira home after he walked earlier in the inning.
Inside the Numbers:
Masino led the offense, going 2-for-4. On the mound, Rob Salvatore earned his first win, pitching six innings, allowing just one run on seven hits, with no walks and three strikeouts. Jason Basilicata closed the game, throwing three scoreless innings with one hit, striking out four batters and walking none.
