Access to nutritious food is more important than ever. Recent cuts to federal spending threaten food assistance programs, putting vulnerable members of our community at risk.
As the president of All Faiths Food Bank, I worry about what this means for people who depend on us for daily meals: families, seniors, veterans, and especially children.
One major concern is the future of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). Cuts to SNAP will leave millions without the food they rely on. Additionally, proposed reductions to school meal programs could make it even harder for kids to get the nutrition they need to succeed. With summer approaching, the lack of daily school lunches could lead to dire situations for many children.
We have been working for 36 years to feed those in need in Sarasota and DeSoto counties. But right now, we need community support more than ever. As government resources become less reliable, we will depend on donations, volunteers, and partners to keep our shelves stocked and our programs running. Every action, whether it’s a financial gift, volunteer work, or spreading the word, truly helps our neighbors in need.
Everyone deserves to know where their next meal will come from. Together, we can ensure our community stays strong and well-fed, even in uncertain times.
We are committed to this mission, but we can’t do it alone. Join us in making a difference.
