Matt Gaetz recently fired back at actor Alan Ritchson, who criticized him during an interview with GQ. Ritchson, known for his role in Reacher, referred to Gaetz as a “motherfucker.” He expressed disbelief that Florida’s panhandle continues to support Gaetz despite his past and promises that Ritchson believes may be unethical.
In response, Gaetz took to X (formerly Twitter) to clarify their history. He stated, “Hollywood apparently changes people!” He reminisced that Ritchson was a year behind him in high school and noted they were both on the Speech and Debate Team. Gaetz claimed they were never adversaries; he had success in debate while Ritchson pursued acting. He also recalled that Ritchson’s mother was friendly toward him, even inviting him to his father’s retirement party from the Air Force.
Gaetz continued his response, suggesting that Ritchson’s comments were an attempt to gain Hollywood attention. He jokingly remarked about the actor, “but not just with the steroids.”
Ritchson also shared his thoughts on politics during the interview. He expressed a desire to outdo someone like Gaetz but questioned whether he could navigate the political landscape without compromising his integrity.
Matt Gaetz served as the U.S. representative for Florida’s 1st congressional district but faced serious allegations in 2020, including child sex trafficking. Fortunately for him, the Department of Justice did not pursue charges after their investigation. In late 2024, he attempted to secure a position as U.S. attorney general under the Trump administration but withdrew amid sexual misconduct claims from a House Ethics Committee report.
