At a recent event in Oxon Hill, Maryland, former President Donald Trump emphasized his administration’s plan to shake up the federal workforce. He boasted about efforts to significantly reduce the number of federal employees and expressed pride in his achievements, saying, “nobody’s ever seen anything like this.”
Speaking at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), Trump painted a picture of a strong Republican future. He claimed that voters supported his agenda to reform government, tighten border security, and extend tax cuts from his first term.
Trump took the stage with confidence, comparing his initial successes to a great start in golf, suggesting that this momentum would carry into future challenges.
He revealed that entrepreneur Elon Musk is involved in the process of employee reductions. Musk stated that federal workers would soon receive emails asking them about their recent accomplishments. Those who fail to respond could be seen as resigning.
Trump also reaffirmed his commitment to stricter immigration policies but noted that the focus on firing federal workers has overshadowed those plans. He mentioned that the U.S. Agency for International Development would be under the control of Customs and Border Protection, signaling a vast restructuring.
During his speech, Trump joked about wanting to check on the gold stored at Fort Knox, implying there might be something to uncover. His comments stirred excitement among the audience.
The former president also took time to reflect on last year’s election, making jabs at current President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris. He seemed to relish revisiting those moments while sharing his opinions on immigration and foreign policy.
Trump’s remarks included a surprising show of admiration for Chinese President Xi Jinping, contrasting his approach to Biden. He also met with Polish President Andrzej Duda at the conference, praising their friendship amidst tensions surrounding the Ukraine conflict.
Trump’s foreign policy approach has drawn attention, particularly for excluding Ukrainian representatives from important discussions. He stated he was in touch with both Zelenskyy and Putin about the war, downplaying its effects on the U.S.
Despite the challenges, Trump expressed optimism about reaching a swift resolution regarding Ukraine. The White House later commented on his commitment to finding a peaceful solution, although timelines appear ambitious.
After the conference, Trump and First Lady Melania Trump hosted governors at the White House, continuing to engage with leaders from across the political spectrum.
