ELON, N.C. – Freshman pitcher Brady Bouchard excelled in his start, throwing six scoreless innings to lead Binghamton to a 7-0 victory over Elon on Saturday. This win improved Binghamton’s record to 2-3, while Elon fell to 1-5.
Bouchard was impressive on the mound, allowing only four hits without any walks. He struck out two batters and retired the side in order during the third, fourth, and fifth innings. The Binghamton pitching staff continued its strong performance from earlier in the weekend, contributing a total of 16 scoreless innings so far in the series.
The Bearcats broke the scoreless tie in the fifth inning, scoring two runs. Senior left fielder Logan Haskell drew a walk with two outs, and then freshman center fielder Matt Bolton hit an RBI double that brought Haskell home. Senior third baseman Devan Bade followed with another RBI double, putting Binghamton up 2-0.
In the sixth inning, senior right fielder Zach Rogacki led off with a single, followed by a walk to graduate first baseman Freddy Forgione. Rogacki stole third base and then scored on a sacrifice fly from junior second baseman Zack Kent, extending the lead to 3-0.
The seventh inning saw Bolton hit by a pitch. After a walk to Bade, senior catcher Evin Sullivan delivered an RBI single, scoring Bolton. Bade crossed home plate later during the inning due to a wild pitch.
The Bearcats capped the scoring in the ninth with an RBI double from junior shortstop Mike Stellrecht and a balk that brought in another run. Kent, Bade, and Sullivan each contributed two hits and an RBI. Rogacki also had two hits and made an impressive diving catch in right center during the eighth inning.
Seven players in total recorded hits, and five contributed RBIs in this strong team effort.
These teams will wrap up their weekend series at noon on Sunday, with junior right-hander Colin Rhein taking the mound for Binghamton.
