Today, Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, kicked off the Fit India Sundays on Cycle campaign in the National Capital. He was joined by enthusiastic cyclists, Olympic rower Arjun Lal Jat, and special guests from the FICCI and CII industry bodies, along with representatives from brands like Decathlon and Yoga Bharat.
Now in its ninth week, the Fit India Sundays on Cycle initiative has turned into a nationwide movement. Cyclists are gathering at over 1,200 locations across India. Dr. Mandaviya dedicated this campaign to tackling obesity, inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s push for healthier lifestyles through exercise, reduced oil consumption, and better eating habits.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Mandaviya said, “To fight obesity, we need to make fitness activities a part of our daily lives. Cycling is one of the easiest exercises and has great benefits for our health and the environment by reducing pollution.”
Each week, the event features different guest participants. This week, corporate representatives joined in to show their support. Vidushpat Singhania, Treasurer of Sportscom, CII, praised the initiative, noting, “A healthy nation is a productive nation. We want more companies to engage in Fit India Sundays on Cycle and support this vital cause.”
Olympian Arjun Lal Jat expressed his excitement too, saying, “It’s fantastic to see so many people out on a Sunday morning focusing on fitness. Staying fit is essential for everyone, and this initiative is a great way to inspire people to start their fitness journey.”
In Guwahati, members of the Indian Medical Association joined the fun at the SAI National Centre of Excellence, with more than 300 people cycling to promote fitness awareness.
Overall, Fit India Sundays on Cycle has been held at 4,200 locations across India in recent weeks, with 1,200 events taking place today alone. Participants from all walks of life are joining in, making it a vibrant and inclusive movement.
