Shiva Texyarn Limited, based in Coimbatore, is a leader in the textile industry, particularly when it comes to technical textiles. The company is known for its innovative products and has earned a great reputation over the years. Now, Shiva Texyarn is preparing for the Bharat Tex 2025 trade fair in New Delhi, which promises to be an exciting event.
In a recent chat, Dr. S.K. Sundararaman, the Managing Director of Shiva Texyarn, shared his thoughts on the company’s innovations and upcoming plans.
Dr. Sundararaman expressed enthusiasm for the Bharat Tex event, stating, “This is a fantastic opportunity that brings together industry players from around the world. We appreciate the efforts of the Government of India and Export Promotion Councils for creating such a dynamic platform. We look forward to using this event to accelerate our growth.”
Recently, Shiva Texyarn made headlines by receiving an important order from the Indian Air Force. Dr. Sundararaman proudly mentioned, “We have secured two key orders. One is for NBC (Nuclear, Biological, and Chemical) protective suits, and the other is for haversacks, which complement the suits. For more than a decade, we’ve been a reliable supplier of NBC gear to the Indian Armed Forces, collaborating closely with DRDO technology.”
Shiva Texyarn’s journey has been impressive. Once a cotton spinning company, it has evolved into a prominent player in technical textiles. “We focus on coating, lamination, and garmenting, especially in defense and specialized textiles,” Dr. Sundararaman said. “Currently, we’re the largest provider of extreme cold-weather clothing for the Indian Army and a pioneer in NBC protective suits.”
The company offers a diverse range of products, including:
- Defense-focused items like cold-weather clothing, NBC suits, and haversacks.
- Custom technical fabrics for civilian use, such as digitally printed wallpapers and absorbent microfiber textiles.
- Fashion lines like ‘Coppersmith’ for women and ‘Brullen’ for outerwear.
Dr. Sundararaman added, “We supply markets in Japan, the US, the Middle East, Europe, and India, focusing on both defense and civilian applications.”
Innovation is at the heart of Shiva Texyarn. Dr. Sundararaman highlighted some recent advancements, saying, “Innovation drives us. We’ve made several breakthroughs, including:
- Breathable Waterproof Coatings using water-soluble chemistry.
- Activated Carbon Layers for NBC garments created with advanced lamination techniques.
- Digitally Printable Materials for high-quality wallpapers and textiles.
- Specialized Microfiber Fabrics for various applications like towels and outerwear.
These innovations are made possible through our strong in-house capabilities in coating, lamination, and fabric formation.
While defending products play an essential role in Shiva Texyarn’s business, the company is also branching out into the civilian market. Dr. Sundararaman notes that their brands, Coppersmith and Brullen, represent this growth, offering stylish and functional garments. They continue to innovate in technical textiles beyond defense to reach new customers.
Shiva Texyarn has invested in state-of-the-art machinery for making outerwear and enhancing its production capabilities. Recently, they added machines that improve the manufacturing of pile fabrics and are focusing on man-made fiber (MMF) fabric production. “With these investments, we are strongly committed to innovation and expanding our capacity,” Dr. Sundararaman stated.
Looking ahead, Dr. Sundararaman said, “Our goal is to remain a leader in technical textiles while expanding our global presence. We will prioritize innovation and sustainability in our products for both defense and civilian markets. While the spinning industry has seen less activity, other segments of our business are thriving. We have strong defense orders set for the upcoming year.”
Dr. Sundararaman has a positive outlook on the Indian textile industry, noting, “Domestic consumption in the textile market has surged, and while India exports around $40 billion in textiles annually, local demand exceeds $100 billion. We aim to capitalize on this by creating branded products with an online-first approach.”
Regarding the upcoming Bharat Tex 2025, Dr. Sundararaman noted, “Visitors can find us at Hall No: 12 A, Stall No: D35/D36. We’ll showcase our garmenting skills, including outerwear and athleisure under our brands. We will also present our innovations in coated fabrics and knit fabrics.”
He concluded, “Bharat Tex is a significant platform for the textile industry, allowing us to connect with international buyers. Events like this help to increase our visibility and market reach, fitting perfectly with our strategy to engage a wider audience.”
