A frightening incident happened in Kent, Indiana, when a bus carrying the Indiana University Indianapolis men’s basketball team burst into flames. This occurred on their way back from a road game against Northern Kentucky.
The bus caught fire due to a mechanical issue, but thankfully, all players and staff evacuated safely. IU Indy Athletics shared that another bus was on the way to pick them up during the emergency.
Photos released by IU Indy Athletics showed the bus severely burnt and charred from the flames. One image captured thick black smoke billowing into the air, causing noticeable traffic delays on the highway.
Earlier that day, the Jaguars faced a tough loss, falling to the Norse 71-67 in Highland, Kentucky. With a record of 9-20 overall and 5-13 in conference play, the team has struggled lately, losing four of their last five games.
Only two games remain in the regular season, both scheduled at home in Indianapolis. They will play Robert Morris this Thursday at 6:30 p.m. Their final home game, which also marks Senior Day, is against Wright State on Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
The Horizon League Tournament is set to begin on March 4, offering a chance for the Jaguars to make a comeback. With the season winding down, fans are hoping for a strong finish.
