Transforming Our Future: How the Vale of White Horse District Council is Leading Climate Action and Nature Recovery

Our commitment to protecting the environment and tackling climate change is stronger than ever.

Our mostly rural district offers a wonderful home for wildlife. It’s important to us to keep this natural beauty for generations to come. We are taking action against climate change and helping our residents and businesses adapt to its effects. We aim to restore nature and build resilient communities.

We’ve made real progress in reducing carbon emissions and have big plans for the future. Together with South Oxfordshire District Council, we’re launching our Nature and Climate Action Plan for 2025-2029. While we are proud of our achievements, there is still much to address regarding climate change and environmental health.

We are dedicated to working with our communities and partners on projects that promote green spaces and increase biodiversity. Supporting sustainable practices across the district is crucial to achieving our goals and helping nature thrive.

Since declaring a climate emergency in 2019, Vale of White Horse has made important advancements in combating climate issues and restoring the environment. But our journey is far from over.

Looking ahead to 2029, we aim to be on track for our goal of achieving net-zero operations by 2030. By 2045, we envision the entire district reaching net zero. Our natural habitats will offer safe spaces for wildlife, and our communities will be equipped to handle the challenges posed by climate change.
