Live Updates: Trump Expresses Support for UK’s Chagos Islands Deal During Meeting with Starmer

During a recent meeting in the Oval Office, it was evident that Donald Trump wanted to lead the discussion. The atmosphere was friendly, but he clearly took center stage.

For over thirty minutes, Trump dominated the conversation, speaking more than his guest, Keir Starmer, who only chimed in occasionally. Trump controlled which reporters got to ask questions, directing his attention toward both American and British journalists.

He even made playful jabs at the press and at Starmer. For example, he jokingly asked, “Can you take on Russia by yourself?” Starmer simply laughed in response.

While Trump was animated, Starmer appeared more relaxed, leaning back in his chair with his legs crossed. His most assertive moment came when Senator JD Vance claimed freedom of speech was being “infringed upon.” Starmer quickly interjected, stating he was “very proud” of free speech in the UK.

This meeting reflected a familiar pattern. Trump has shown a consistent tendency to control the narrative during these gatherings, using them as a platform to share his views both on national and international issues. Just earlier this week, he had a similar interaction with French President Emmanuel Macron.
