The Vernon Vipers took a break from hockey gear for some team bonding at Kekuli Bay Provincial Park on February 26. With just ten games left in the season, they needed a lift as their playoff hopes were dwindling.
Some players, like forward Luc Bydal and defenseman Brock Heidecker, even took the plunge into the chilly waters of Kalamalka Lake for a little extra fun.
This weekend is crucial for the Vipers, as they host two important home games. On February 28 at 7 p.m., they’ll face the Alberni Valley Bulldogs. Then, on February 29, they play the Spruce Grove Saints at 6 p.m. Both games will be held at Kal Tire Place.
Currently, the Vipers sit in 10th place in the Interior Conference with a record of 12 wins, 26 losses, and 6 overtime losses. They trail the West Kelowna Warriors by 11 points, who are currently holding onto the last playoff spot. The Vipers also need to catch up to the Spruce Grove Saints, who are ahead of them by seven points.
The Bulldogs enter this weekend with a record of 23 wins, 18 losses, and 2 overtime losses, having lost their last two games. They are in a tight race for playoff positioning in the Coastal Conference, where only seven points separate third place from seventh.
This weekend is a chance for the Vipers to turn things around and renew their fight for a playoff spot.
