Trump’s Controversial Return: Seized Boxes Fly Back to Florida on Air Force One | CNN Politics

President Donald Trump returned to Florida on Friday with boxes of documents that the FBI had taken from Mar-a-Lago during a search in August 2022.

Trump announced the return of the documents, stating, “The Department of Justice has just returned the boxes. They are on their way to Florida and will eventually be part of the Trump Presidential Library.” He claimed that the investigation into his handling of presidential documents, some of which were classified, was simply a political attack.

The classified documents case had been dropped in November after Trump secured a win in the 2024 election. He pleaded not guilty to the charges.

According to White House Communications Director Steven Cheung, the boxes were loaded onto Air Force One. He mentioned that they contain “personal items that belong to the president.”

Trump’s counselor, Alina Habba, addressed questions about the contents of the boxes, where they would be stored, and any changes to storage procedures. She emphasized, “These are President Trump’s items, and they needed to be returned.” When asked about concerns over storing sensitive materials at Mar-a-Lago, she insisted, “They were personal items. You can’t just go into somebody’s home in this country.”

Reports indicate that Trump kept classified documents in various public places at his Florida club, including a ballroom, bathroom, and bedroom.
