A new medical school campus is coming to York County, thanks to a partnership between the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University and WellSpan Health. This will be the first academic medical school in the area.

This collaboration started over the summer when the two organizations signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU). The goal is to offer a new educational path for future healthcare professionals.
Temple University President John Fry expressed enthusiasm for this initiative, highlighting how it will enhance health outcomes in York County and beyond. “Partnering with a respected healthcare provider like WellSpan will prepare new medical professionals dedicated to making a difference,” he said.
The York County campus of the Katz School will begin its journey by enrolling about 40 students in August 2027, with their graduation set for May 2031. Currently, the school has around 880 medical students across its main campuses in North Philadelphia and Bethlehem.
Anthony Aquilina, from WellSpan Health, shared his excitement about training future physicians close to home. This campus will be located at 3350 Whiteford Road in East York, which is presently a WellSpan administrative center.
The school’s clinical training will start at WellSpan York Hospital, with access to various WellSpan facilities throughout the program. Additionally, WellSpan is expanding its educational offerings, including new residency programs and a nursing school through a partnership with Jersey College.
These developments promise to bring more educational opportunities to York County, making a positive impact on the community and its healthcare services.
