Pentagon Deploys 3,000 More Active-Duty Troops to Strengthen US-Mexico Border Security

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Pentagon is deploying around 3,000 additional troops to the U.S.-Mexico border. This move comes as President Donald Trump aims to strengthen border security and address illegal immigration, a key point of his campaign.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth announced that parts of a Stryker brigade and a support aviation unit will join the mission. These troops are expected to arrive in the coming weeks to assist with border operations.

While the Pentagon did not confirm the troop numbers, officials indicated that the addition would bring the total number of U.S. troops at the border to approximately 12,200. This includes about 9,200 active-duty and National Guard members.

The new deployment is intended to enhance current security efforts and ensure the safety of U.S. territory. Military personnel have been stationed at the southern border for decades, helping to manage issues such as migration and drug trafficking.

This latest move reflects Trump’s ongoing commitment to a strong military presence at the border, aiming to deter illegal crossings and expedite the return of migrants to their home countries.
