In Philadelphia, members of the Temple University law enforcement team have received recognition for their hard work and commitment to keeping the community safe.
This past Tuesday, Officer Andrew Venini was named Officer of the Year. “It’s a great honor. I’m proud. My family is here, and they’re proud of me too,” he said. Venini has been striving for this achievement for many years.
Several other officers were also celebrated for their long years of service and for their quick actions that saved lives. For example, on September 27, Sgt. Lauren Boone helped save a man who was crushed by a 700-pound air conditioning unit on a construction site. With the man bleeding heavily from injuries to his head, arms, and legs, Sgt. Boone and her team used tourniquets before paramedics arrived. It was her first time using a tourniquet while on duty.
“Instincts just took over,” she shared. “You often hear officers say they want to help people, and when you see someone go home after a situation like that, it feels incredible.”
Lt. Kamari Boone also received praise for his heroic actions. He saved a student who was in distress and sitting on the edge of a rooftop, contemplating suicide. Interestingly, Sgt. Boone is married to Lt. Boone.
Lt. Boone emphasized the importance of teamwork, saying, “We often take a moment to reflect on our daily experiences. As a team, we strengthen each other.”
Dr. Jennifer Griffin, Temple’s Vice President of Public Safety, highlighted how vital it is to publicly acknowledge the bravery of officers. “They don’t come to work for the accolades. This recognition shows them that we value their contributions every day,” she noted.
Alongside the officers, dispatchers and security personnel were also honored for their key roles in ensuring public safety.
