Weed and hip-hop have always gone hand in hand. In Chicago, producer Thelonious Martin stands out for his smooth, stoner-friendly beats and his popular “Me vs. the Weed” meme. In 2024, he teamed up with Black Hippy Farms, a local cannabis brand, to create a special strain called Permanent Wave.

Permanently packaged in jars inspired by the video game Tekken, the strain boasts a bold, gassy flavor with sweet candy notes. The experience starts with a euphoric high, then slowly melts into a relaxing body buzz.
Martin describes his collaboration as a natural fit. “When the opportunity to create a strain came up, it felt easy. The name comes from two things I love: Permanent Markers and Tekken, hence the game-themed artwork,” he shared. “It hits you hard like a punch from Kazuya or Jin.”
Kingsley Agboje, founder of Black Hippy Farms, emphasizes the importance of quality. “Thelo has been enjoying our weed for a while, so I noted what he liked. I even got a special batch of Permanent Marker that surprised me,” he explained. “I knew he would love it.”
If you missed this exclusive drop, don’t worry! Agboje hints at more exciting collaborations coming soon. “We have plans for a new strain in the spring. It’ll be vibrant and perfect for the season,” he mentioned. “This spring and summer are going to vibe differently than the past few years, and our new strain will match that energy.”
