ST. CHARLES, Mo. – Lindenwood softball faced Eastern Illinois in a doubleheader on Saturday. The teams split the games at the Lou Brock Sports Complex. Lindenwood lost the first game 11-0 but bounced back with a 3-2 victory in the second.
GAME ONE
Lindenwood struggled in the first game, falling to Eastern Illinois by 11 runs. They managed only five hits and made two errors. Avery Wapp took the loss, pitching three innings and allowing five runs while striking out three batters. Samantha Roulanaitis and Molly Heidrick each pitched one inning, giving up three runs. McKenzie Oslanzi earned the win for Eastern Illinois by throwing a complete game.
Jolie McMinn was the standout for Lindenwood at the plate, going 2-for-2. Unfortunately, Eastern Illinois capitalized early, scoring three runs in the first inning. They kept adding runs throughout the game, making it difficult for Lindenwood to recover.
GAME TWO
The second game saw a much-improved performance from the Lions. They won 3-2, scoring the winning run in the bottom of the seventh. The team collected just three hits but was resilient in the face of challenges. Ryleigh Owens pitched all seven innings, allowing two runs and striking out four batters.
Eastern Illinois scored first, but Lindenwood responded with a homer from Irelynn West in the fourth inning. West finished with two hits and two RBIs. The game remained close, as Eastern Illinois took the lead again in the sixth with a solo homer from Kendall Grove. However, Lindenwood tied it up shortly after when West’s single brought in Teryn Brown.
The winning moment came in the seventh inning when a defensive error allowed a run to score after a walk put a runner on base. This win set up an exciting finish for the series.
Lindenwood will face Eastern Illinois again for the final game tomorrow at 12:00 p.m. CT at Lou Brock Stadium. Stay tuned for more updates!
