ORLANDO, FLA. – Valley City State University baseball faced a tough game against Lawrence Tech on March 8, losing by a close score of 10-9.
This game brought the Vikings’ season record to 9-9 and their tournament record to 4-4 at the RussMatt Invitational, while Lawrence Tech improved to 5-1.
Game Summary: LT 10, VCSU 9
The Vikings put up a strong fight but fell just short in the final inning. Jaden Babiuk had a standout performance, hitting 3-for-6 with one RBI and scoring once. Kaden Rozdeba also made significant contributions, going 2-for-5 with three RBIs and two runs.
Lawrence Tech surged ahead early, scoring two in the first, one in the second, three in the third, and two in the fourth to lead 8-0. The Vikings responded fiercely in the fifth inning, starting with Rozdeba’s single that brought in two runs. Later, with the bases loaded, Hunter Logan was walked, adding another run.
VCSU continued to battle in the sixth, scoring four more runs. A big highlight was a triple from Cam Pero, who cleared the bases. Pero later took advantage of a passed ball to score himself, making the game 8-6.
Lawrence Tech managed to score one more run in the sixth due to an error, pushing the score to 9-7. However, the Vikings kept pushing forward. They tied the game in the ninth after scoring once from a Babiuk single and again from Rozdeba’s contribution.
Unfortunately, in the bottom of the ninth, the Vikings allowed the game-winning run, resulting in their defeat.
Anthony Carrasquillo took the loss for VCSU, while Hunter Magnuson started the game, pitching nearly three innings and striking out one batter while allowing six earned runs. For Lawrence Tech, Ryan Hulke was credited with the win.
The Vikings will look to bounce back in their next game against Judson University on March 9 at 2:30 PM CT.
