The Kenya Meteorological Department has issued a warning for heavy rainfall expected across several regions. Residents are encouraged to take precautions as these weather changes can impact daily life.

On March 9, 2025, areas like the Lake Victoria Basin, Rift Valley, and parts of Nairobi will experience significant rainfall, potentially exceeding 20 mm in a 24-hour period. The forecast predicts that by March 10, the rainfall could intensify to more than 30 mm and move into northwestern Kenya.

The affected counties include Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Homabay, Siaya, Migori, Busia, Kisumu, Kisii, Nyamira, Nandi, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Baringo, Nakuru, Trans-Nzoia, Uasin-Gishu, Elgeyo-Marakwet, West-Pokot, Turkana, Marsabit, Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, and Machakos.

Residents in these areas should be vigilant about the possibility of floods and poor visibility. It’s important to avoid seeking shelter under trees or near windows, as these places can be dangerous during storms due to lightning.

The weather department will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates if conditions change. Various government agencies, including the Ministry of Environment and the Kenya Red Cross Society, are preparing for potential emergencies.
