RHINELANDER, Wisc. — After the holiday season, the Rhinelander Area Food Pantry often sees a dip in donations. To tackle this, the pantry is asking the community for support.
“This is a great chance for our donors to make a bigger impact,” said Courtney Smith, the Executive Director of the food pantry.
The pantry has kicked off its 15th annual Spring Challenge. From March 1 to April 30, two anonymous families will match donations, both monetary and food, up to a certain amount.
“Spring is always a tough time for us,” Smith explained. “After the holidays, donations start to drop off, and it becomes harder to keep our shelves full.”
Smith also pointed out that despite the slowdown in donations, the need is growing. In the past year, the pantry saw a 40% increase in people experiencing food insecurity who turn to them for help.
“Last year was incredibly busy for us. We now serve over 2,000 individuals and more than 1,000 households,” Smith said. “Community support is crucial right now.”
Anticipating further growth in the number of people relying on the pantry, Smith emphasizes that every donation, no matter the size, can make a difference.
“Your contributions are an investment in the community,” she added. “We are careful with our funds, ensuring most goes directly to feeding those in need.”
To support the Spring Challenge, donations can be made online through the Rhinelander Area Food Pantry’s website. You can also mail donations to PO Box 1306, Rhinelander, or drop off food items directly at the pantry.
