New York, NY — NYC Health + Hospitals has launched the second season of its podcast, The Remedy. This season will include seven episodes, with one new episode every two weeks. Each episode focuses on front-line workers who provide vital care beyond the walls of hospitals. Episode 1 features Community Health Workers who bridge the gap between health care and social needs. With over 250 community health workers in the system, NYC Health + Hospitals has built one of the largest programs in the nation.

Host Dr. Michael Shen talks with Community Health Worker Supervisor Natasha McIntosh-Whyte and Community Health Worker Nkrumah Powell. They discuss their hands-on experiences assisting patients. From finding housing to providing meals, they share moving stories that illustrate the impact of their work.

“I often describe community health workers as family members,” says Dr. Shen. “They meet patients weekly, join them at appointments, and help them access important services. They play a crucial role in patient care.”

Natasha highlights, “Community health workers connect medical care with community resources. We build trust and advocate for our patients to help them live better lives.” Nkrumah adds, “We meet patients where they are, building relationships to show them they are not alone.”

The podcast illustrates how NYC Health + Hospitals serves everyone, regardless of their ability to pay. They address various community challenges like homelessness and health crises, providing innovative care methods such as music therapy.
