JAMMU: Jammu and Kashmir’s Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah, shared his thoughts on the names of our country. He stated that India is known by three names: Bharat, India, and Hindustan. He believes people should use whichever name feels right to them.
His comments came in response to a statement from RSS General Secretary Dattatreya Hosabale, who suggested that Bharat should be the only name for the country. Abdullah pointed out that if Bharat is the only name we should use, then why do we have terms like “Constitution of India” and “Reserve Bank of India”? He noted that institutions such as the Indian Air Force and Indian Army still use the name India. He also referenced the famous patriotic song “Sare Jahan Se Achcha, Hindustan Hamara,” emphasizing that Hindustan is also widely recognized.
Abdullah also addressed criticism regarding his previous remark that the budget was a “love letter” to the people. He mentioned that opposition parties have their role, just as his party did when it was in the opposition. That’s how democracy works, he explained.
He made it clear that the budget is not just for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) but aims to benefit all citizens of Jammu and Kashmir, including supporters of various political parties. “I own this budget, and I’ll keep crafting these ‘love letters’ for the next five years,” he added with confidence.
