Doug Kiker, known for his appearance on “American Idol,” has passed away at the young age of 32. His sister, Angela Evans, shared the news in a heartfelt Facebook post, expressing the family’s grief and love for him.

“It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of my brother, Douglas Kiker,” she wrote. “He was so loved and will be missed by many. Your singing with the angels now, Bubba. Please pray for our family during this tough time.”

Kiker, dubbed “The Singing Garbage Man” on the show, died unexpectedly. The Denver Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed that they were notified about his death on March 10, 2025, but details about the cause of death are still under investigation.

Valerie Cook, Kiker’s ex-fiancée, shared her sorrow over their children losing their father. His family has set up a GoFundMe to help with funeral expenses and to honor his memory. They expressed their gratitude for the support they’ve received during this challenging time.

Angela noted that Doug’s passing was entirely unexpected and emphasized how unprepared the family is for the arrangements ahead. “We are going to need a little help getting him home from Denver, Colorado, and to have a proper memorial,” she mentioned.

In his short life, Kiker brought joy to many, capturing hearts during his audition for “American Idol” in Season 18. Judges Lionel Richie, Katy Perry, and Luke Bryan were moved as he performed Rascal Flatts’ “Bless the Broken Road.” Despite having no prior singing experience, his talent shone through, and he advanced to Hollywood week but was eliminated shortly thereafter.

During his audition, Kiker showed a charming honesty when he told Richie, “I have some experience now,” after being asked to warm up outside. Perry was visibly emotional during his performance, and Richie praised him, saying, “You’re a hell of a man.”
