The tragic deaths of actor Gene Hackman and his wife, Betsy Arakawa, have caught the public’s attention and hearts. Arakawa’s cause of death was identified as hantavirus pulmonary syndrome, a rare illness that stems from contact with rodent droppings or urine. Interestingly, there were no signs that Hackman had also suffered from dehydration, although he had not eaten in days. Santa Fe County Sheriff Adan Mendoza noted that there were signs of him being at home with his late wife for about a week.
In a stroke of good fortune, their two other dogs were discovered alive. They apparently had access to a doggy door, allowing them to move freely around the house and outside. He shared that the surviving dogs are safe and adapting well since being taken into his care.
