The George Mason Patriots faced a tough challenge today as they fell to the No. 23 ranked Virginia Cavaliers, losing 1-0.

The game took place in Charlottesville, where junior pitcher Harlowe Nigh started for the Patriots. In her two innings, she allowed three hits, including one extra-base hit. Abbey Lane stepped in during the third inning and had a solid performance, giving up only one hit and one run due to an error over her two innings on the mound, while also walking two batters.
The only run of the game came in the third inning when Virginia’s Hylton walked, stole second, and then scored after Ayer’s single. Despite efforts from the Patriots, including a hit by Kamryn Inman in the fifth inning, they were unable to convert any of their opportunities into runs.
Reliever Haleigh Dellow made her fifth appearance, pitching two innings, giving up just one hit and recording a strikeout. However, it was Eden Bigham for the Cavaliers who shined, pitching a complete game with an impressive 10 strikeouts and allowing only one hit.
This loss puts the Patriots at a record of 10 wins and 17 losses, while the Cavaliers improve to 22 wins and 7 losses.
Looking ahead, the Patriots will head to Olean, New York, this weekend for a three-game series against St. Bonaventure. They will start with a doubleheader on Saturday, March 22nd, kicking off at noon, followed by a single game on Sunday, March 23rd, also at noon.
