Exciting Maryland Athletics Update: Discover the Latest Highlights from the University of Maryland Sports Teams!

Dear Terrapin Nation,

I have some big news. I’ve accepted the role of athletic director at Southern Methodist University (SMU). This decision wasn’t easy. It has been a tough choice in my career, but I’m excited about this new chapter.

Looking back on my ten years here, I feel proud of our achievements, especially over the last seven years as Director of Athletics. With your incredible support, we have celebrated 49 Big Ten Championships and seven national titles! Our facilities have also grown tremendously. We’ve added amazing places for our student-athletes, like the Jones-Hill House, baseball and softball performance centers, and the new Barry Gossett Basketball Performance Center that opens this summer.

But the best part of my time here has been the connections I’ve made with all of you. Saying goodbye to this community, to so many Terps, alumni, and friends, is truly the hardest part of leaving. I am grateful for your friendship and support, not just for me, but for our athletic department.

I have great confidence in Colleen Sorem as the interim athletic director. She has been my right-hand person for years and is one of the best in the field. Maryland athletics is in capable hands, and I’m excited for what she will achieve.

I also want to thank President Pines for his support and leadership. He has played a crucial role in transforming our athletic department, tackling many challenges in collegiate sports.

As I move on to wear different colors, Maryland will always hold a special place in my heart.
