New York recently lit up with celebrations for ‘Bihar Diwas,’ a day dedicated to honoring the rich culture and heritage of Bihar. The event, organized by the Consulate General of India in New York, along with the Bihar Foundation USA and the Bihar Jharkhand Association of North America, attracted over 130 members of the Indian-American community. It celebrated the state’s achievements and highlighted its growing presence in the global arena.
During this special occasion, four distinguished individuals received the ‘Bihar Vishwa Gaurav Samman’ for their significant contributions. Mahesh Kumar, founder of Tiger Analytics, was recognized for enhancing Bihar’s IT sector. Dr. Abhishek Tiwary, the global head of people at KPMG, was honored for his efforts in empowering young leaders. Sharad Kumar, managing director at Bank of America, received accolades for his contributions to finance and leadership within the Indian diaspora. Lastly, Dr. Prakash Jha was recognized for using technology to boost food security and support rural communities.
These honorees represent the incredible potential of Bihar’s diaspora. Their stories illustrate how individuals from Bihar are making an impact worldwide. Bihar’s Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary extended their congratulations, emphasizing the importance of giving back to one’s roots. Choudhary particularly praised Mahesh Kumar for fostering a vibrant IT landscape in Patna and inspiring entrepreneurship among locals.
The Consul General of India in New York, Binaya Pradhan, spoke warmly about Bihar’s historical impact on education and culture. He highlighted notable figures from the state, such as the first President of India, Dr. Rajendra Prasad, and the ancient scholar Aryabhata. Kundan Kumar, CEO of Bihar Foundation Patna, announced a new grievance cell to assist Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) with their concerns, aiming to strengthen ties between the diaspora and Bihar.
A touching tribute was paid to the late Padma Vibhushan Sharda Sinha, a beloved cultural icon from Bihar. A video tribute featuring her favorite song was shared, along with heartfelt performances by young artists in her memory.
Community leaders, including Dr. Avinash Gupta and former FIA President Avinash Gupta, discussed Bihar’s development and encouraged the diaspora to maintain strong connections with their homeland. They emphasized the themes of youth engagement and cultural preservation, which are vital as the Bihar Jharkhand Association of North America approaches its 50th anniversary.
The event not only celebrated the achievements of individuals but also reinforced the bond between those in India and the diaspora, reminding everyone of the importance of working together for a brighter future.
