Ontario County Democrats Generously Support Local Community by Donating Food to Naples Open Cupboard

The Ontario County Democratic Committee (OCDC) recently contributed over 120 pounds of food to the Naples Open Cupboard. This organization, run by volunteers, helps individuals and families who are struggling with food insecurity. The donation took place on March 19.

The Naples Open Cupboard serves 200 to 250 visitors every month, providing much-needed food assistance. Their mission is to fight hunger and improve community health. They not only distribute food but also offer educational resources to promote better nutrition.

John Hurley, the chair of OCDC, highlighted the growing need for community support. He noted that rising prices and cuts to government programs have left many people vulnerable. “Democrats care. It is our honor to help those in need,” he stated.

This aligns with recent data showing a significant increase in food insecurity rates in the U.S. A 2023 report from the U.S. Department of Agriculture found that about 10.5% of American households grapple with food scarcity. This is an alarming statistic that emphasizes the importance of community support and local initiatives like the Naples Open Cupboard.

The OCDC also aims to educate the public on democracy and advocates for policies such as affordable healthcare and environmental protection. Their work not only helps individuals directly but also promotes broader social change.
