Join the Excitement: Men’s Golf Set to Shine at the 48th Annual Rutherford Intercollegiate – Oakland University Athletics

The Oakland University men’s golf team is gearing up for an exciting weekend at the 48th Annual Rutherford Intercollegiate. This event, hosted by Penn State, takes place on April 12-13 at the beautiful Penn State Blue Course in State College, Pennsylvania.

This course measures 7,130 yards and has a par of 71, providing a perfect setting for a competitive tournament. The team will play 36 holes on Saturday, starting at 7:30 a.m., and will wrap up with the final 18 holes on Sunday at 8 a.m.

Oakland will face tough competition, battling against 12 other teams, including hosts Penn State and schools like Binghamton, Bucknell, and Connecticut. Golf fans can keep track of the action through live scoring here.

Recently, Jack Zubkus stood out at the Don Benbow Invitational, securing 9th place and earning him the Horizon League Golfer of the Week title. Other key players for the Golden Grizzlies include Matteo Rocco and Bhavneet Sohal, who also performed well in the previous tournament. This weekend, the team lineup features Bhavneet Sohal, Ellis Kinnaird, Robert Burns, Matteo Rocco, and Ben Willis. They hope to capitalize on their momentum and deliver a solid performance at this historic collegiate event.

As interest in collegiate golf grows, events like this reflect a broader trend in sports where younger athletes gain more recognition and opportunity. A recent survey by the National Federation of State High School Associations shows that golf participation among high school students has risen sharply over the past decade, indicating a vibrant future for the sport at all levels.
