“Call God.”
Those words take me back to a whirlwind of unforgettable moments. This past basketball season was about more than just games. It was a mix of thrilling plays, unexpected victories, and a heartwarming community that backed our Auburn Tigers all the way to San Antonio.
Auburn basketball transformed into a celebration of passion and connection. As a freshman with a deep-rooted love for this team—thanks to my family legacy—I felt the excitement from the very start. My dad and sister both graduated from Auburn, which means I’ve been cheering on the Tigers for as long as I can remember.
While I watched Auburn football struggle during a recent game against Vanderbilt, I couldn’t help but think, “At least we have basketball.” For a school known for its football, this sentiment feels revolutionary. Many students now prefer the thrill of basketball games over football, and I can see why. The energy on campus was electric, and the bond the team formed with its fanbase was unlike anything I’ve ever experienced.
Players like Dylan Cardwell and Johni Broome didn’t just play; they connected with us. The “Call God” chant started as a phrase of celebration but quickly became our rallying cry, echoing across campus. Walking around, it’s common to spot shirts and hats adorned with that phrase. It symbolizes our shared experiences and the joy this team has brought us.
In my short time here, camping out for big games created some of the best memories. Despite the cold night air and concrete floors, just being together with fellow fans—playing music, tossing a football, and even getting interviewed on local news—strengthened our ties. It’s these moments of hardship that build unbreakable bonds.
When our team showed up with food and games for the fans camped out, it felt surreal. The connection was genuine. Game nights turned The Jungle into a rowdy, spirited place, filled with deafening cheers and celebration.
This season, I joined friends traveling to away games, where we painted the arenas in orange and blue. Watching the Tigers secure stunning victories on enemy turf felt like home. One of the most exciting moments was when we attended the historic clash of No. 1 vs. No. 2 teams in SEC history. The energy in the arena was tangible!
Witnessing Auburn’s second-ever Final Four appearance at State Farm Arena was a dream. The atmosphere was unreal. It wasn’t just a game; it was an event that brought our community together. Seeing Broome hit a crucial shot to seal our victory against Michigan State served as a highlight of this journey.
This entire season encapsulated a spirit of hope and pride. It began with the exuberance of new players like Miles Kelly, who exploded onto the scene with stunning three-pointers, and continued with unforgettable moments—like that heart-stopping win over Tennessee.
This season will certainly be one I recount for years to come. The laughter, the celebrations at Toomer’s Corner, and the sheer happiness this team has brought to our campus are hard to put into words. It’s about more than basketball; it’s about connection, joy, and community.
As we look ahead, let’s celebrate the memories we’ve created. Thank you, Auburn basketball, for an incredible ride. Your impact on our lives and our hearts will last long after the final buzzer.
