After the game, five seniors—’Eleu Choy, Kawai Hong, Kurt Nusterer, Zachary Thompson, and Clay Wieter—were honored in a heartfelt Senior Night ceremony. This event drew a packed crowd of 10,300 fans, marking the first time since 1996 that the arena has had back-to-back sold-out events.

This match was crucial for both teams. With this victory, Hawai’i (23-4, 6-2 in the Big West Conference) kept pace with Long Beach State in the standings. The Beach (24-2, also 6-2) had the opportunity to secure the regular season title with a win, but Hawai’i wasn’t ready to let that happen.

Freshman Finn Kearney led the Warriors with an impressive 17 kills. This was his second night in a row stepping up for an injured teammate. He adapted well, even switching positions on the court as needed. Kurt Nusterer put on a standout performance, achieving a career-high 10 kills without any errors, plus a team-high six blocks. Louis Sakanoko contributed with nine kills, making critical points at the end of the final set.

Interestingly, Hawai’i managed to neutralize Moni Nikolov, who is known for his powerful serves. They didn’t allow him to score any aces, highlighting a strong defensive effort, especially from Choy. Although the Beach had five aces, they struggled with 27 service errors, much higher than Hawai’i’s 17. This difference in performance played a significant role in the match.
