Harvard Men’s Volleyball Concludes Regular Season Against NJIT: Don’t Miss the Action!

Harvard men’s volleyball is gearing up for its last regular season matches this weekend in Newark, NJ, where they’ll face NJIT on Friday, April 18, at 6:00 p.m. ET, and Saturday, April 19, at 7:00 p.m. ET. This series is crucial as the Crimson looks to finish strong in the EIVA conference.

Recently, Harvard faced tough competition against No. 19 Princeton. They battled hard but ended up losing both matches. The first was a straight-set loss, 3-0, while the next match was a nail-biter that stretched to five sets, ending 15-13 in favor of Princeton.

One standout player during this challenging weekend was Owen Fanning. He averaged 11 kills per match and posted an impressive hitting percentage of .553, along with five total blocks.

Currently, the Crimson shares the fourth-best record in the conference, tied with Charleston at 5-5. Their strength lies in their serve, as they lead the EIVA with an average of 1.51 aces per set. Defensively, they also rank well, placing in the top two for digs (8.09 per set) and fewest opponent kills (11.45 per set).

Several players are making their mark in the EIVA stats. Zach Berty is sixth in hitting percentage at .270, while Thomas Phung and Logan Shepherd are both in the top five for digs, ranking second and fifth, respectively.

Historically, Harvard has a strong track record against NJIT, leading their all-time series 31-24. However, last season was a mixed bag, with the Crimson losing both regular season games before bouncing back to defeat the Highlanders in the EIVA Tournament.

Looking ahead, the Crimson will be setting their sights on the postseason, starting with the EIVA Quarterfinals on Wednesday, April 23. Their final regular-season performance will play a role in determining their seeding and matchups for the tournament.

As teams like Harvard prepare for the playoffs, the games become more intense. Fans and sports analysts alike are buzzing about how this might shape the team’s future and if they can capitalize on their strengths to make a deep tournament run.
