Aaron Rodgers Fires Back at Aaron Glenn After Explosive Meeting That Changed His Jets Future

Aaron Rodgers recently shared his thoughts on his last meeting with the New York Jets, comparing it to his challenging debut with the team. When he appeared on “The Pat McAfee Show,” he didn’t hold back. This was his first public comment since the team decided to release him.

At 41 years old, Rodgers traveled from California to New Jersey in February for what he believed would be a meaningful discussion with new coach Aaron Glenn and general manager Darren Mougey. Instead, the meeting lasted only 15 minutes. Rodgers felt that the exchange lacked respect and was quite abrupt.

During the meeting, Rodgers wasn’t even able to get comfortable before Glenn excused himself to fetch Mougey. “I thought we’d have a deeper conversation,” he said. “But 20 seconds in, he asked if I wanted to play football. When I said yes, he told me they were going in a different direction at quarterback.”

Rodgers was taken aback. “I thought I deserved a bit more than that, especially given the long flight,” he mentioned. The Jets’ interest seemed limited to how he would manage the narrative surrounding his release rather than discussing his future or contributions to the team.

“I really don’t care about the messaging,” he added, expressing his frustration. He noted that Glenn seemed concerned about letting Rodgers stay involved, fearing he might overshadow the new coach as he addressed the team.

Reflecting on the meeting, Rodgers described it as “very strange.” He wasn’t pleading for a spot on the team, feeling the situation was already complicated. “There are definitely things that need fixing over there,” he remarked.

This strange saga marks the end of Rodgers’ tumultuous two-year stint with the Jets. It began when he asked the Packers to trade him to New York, a wish that was fulfilled amid much excitement in April 2023. His initial season, however, ended tragically when he injured his Achilles tendon just four plays into the opener. The Jets announced his release in February and made it official in March, signing Justin Fields to a new contract in his place. Rodgers praised Giants coach Brian Daboll, calling him a “beautiful football mind.” Currently, his focus is on personal matters, with two close friends facing serious challenges. He remains open about his future, including the possibility of retirement, saying he doesn’t feel rushed to make a decision. “I’m trying to stay open,” he explained. “I’m not holding anyone hostage.”
