Important Update: Some Select Switch 2 Games Won’t Offer Cloud Save Support – What You Need to Know!

Just when we thought the situation with Nintendo’s upcoming ‘Switch 2 Edition’ games couldn’t get any murkier, more information has emerged. Recent discoveries show that certain games, including highly anticipated titles, may not support the Nintendo Switch Online Cloud Save feature.

A user on a ResetEra thread highlighted that the Tears of the Kingdom page on Nintendo’s website specifically states: "This software does not support the Nintendo Switch Online paid membership’s Save Data Cloud backup feature." The same message could be found on the Donkey Kong Bananza listing, raising eyebrows among the gaming community.

Interestingly, this disclaimer seems exclusive to North American and European game listings. Notably, no such notice appears on the Japanese version of the site, adding to the confusion.

Nintendo’s decision to exclude cloud saving options from new Switch 2 titles is puzzling. Especially because Tears of the Kingdom and other titles previously permitted cloud saves on the original Switch. Players can still transfer save files from older versions; however, if Nintendo’s disclaimers are accurate, players won’t be able to create new cloud saves. This leaves many wondering, has there been a mix-up?

This cloud save issue isn’t just a technical oversight. It raises questions about player trust and the overall direction Nintendo is taking. In a world where gaming preferences are shifting towards mobility and flexibility, removing cloud save capabilities from new titles feels counterintuitive.

Adding to the intrigue, a survey by the Entertainment Software Association (ESA) this year found that 74% of gamers consider cloud saves crucial for their gaming experience. This shows how significant cloud support is to today’s players, marking a shift since the early 2000s when such features were rare.

As we anticipate further updates on this situation, it’s essential to stay informed. Gamers are eager to see how Nintendo will clarify this puzzling decision.
