Exciting News: Binghamton University Unveils 2025 Honorary Degree Recipients!

Binghamton University is gearing up to honor four remarkable individuals during its Commencement ceremonies from May 15-17, 2025. Each year, the university recognizes those who have made significant contributions in their fields. This year, the list includes:

• Ambassador Amy J. Hyatt ’78 will receive the Doctor of Laws at the College of Community and Public Affairs ceremony on May 16 at 1 p.m.
• Tyrone E. Muse, CEO of Visions Federal Credit Union, will be honored with the Doctor of Humane Letters during the School of Management ceremony at 4:30 p.m. on May 16.
• Michael D. Timmeny ’73, former senior VP at Cisco, will also receive the Doctor of Humane Letters at the Harpur College ceremony on May 17 at 12:30 p.m.
• Stuart F. Koenig ’73, senior advisor at LeadCrest Capital Partners, will be awarded the Doctor of Humane Letters during the same Harpur College ceremony at 4:30 p.m.

These honorees will share their insights and experiences after receiving their degrees, all taking place at Binghamton’s Events Center.

Meet the Honorees

Amy J. Hyatt has had a distinguished career in diplomacy, serving over 30 years with the U.S. Department of State. She graduated with degrees in political science and history, later adding a law degree from Stanford. Hyatt’s diplomatic journey saw her stationed in various countries, including South Korea and Norway, where she made a significant impact. Notably, she was appointed as the U.S. ambassador to Palau by former President Obama.

Tyrone E. Muse has been instrumental in expanding Visions Federal Credit Union since he took over as CEO in 2013. Under his leadership, membership has soared to 250,000, with assets increasing to over $5.5 billion. Muse has a knack for nurturing community ties and supports several initiatives at Binghamton University.

Michael D. Timmeny started his career working for iconic Congresswoman Shirley Chisholm and later transitioned to corporate leadership at Cisco. His efforts in government relations shaped critical strategies for the tech giant. Now retired, Timmeny remains engaged with Binghamton University, serving on various boards.

Stuart F. Koenig built a successful career in finance and management after graduating with an English degree. His role as CFO at AREA Property Partners saw significant growth in assets and strategic expansions. Today, he continues to support the university and its students through his board involvement and contributions.

Binghamton University’s honorary degrees serve to highlight the achievements of those who embody the university’s values. The selection process involves nominations reviewed by a committee, emphasizing accomplishments in scholarship, creativity, or public service.
