Drake University recently celebrated the opening of the Johansen Student Center, a dynamic space for over 150 student organizations. Previously known as Morehouse Residence Hall, this $16.2 million renovation was fully funded by generous donations, including a record-setting $28 million gift from alumnus Greg Johansen and his wife, Cie.

The grand opening took place on April 24, coinciding with Relays Week, allowing students, alumni, and faculty to join in the festivities. • Ground Floor: Fisher-Stelter Hall, once the dorm’s dining area, now serves as a flexible workspace.
• First Floor: Home to multiple community areas and meeting spots, including the Koehn Community Work Zone.
• Second Floor: Houses the Adams Leadership Institute and several collaborative spaces.
• Third Floor: Features the J.W. Roberts Digital Hub and advanced meeting rooms.

Notable contributors who helped bring this vision to life include Frances Kinne, Cain and Denise Hayes, and the Ruan Foundation, who have invested significantly in creating student-centric spaces. These contributions underline a strong community spirit at Drake.
