Former ‘Baywatch’ Star Champions a Disease-Preventative Lifestyle While Battling Cancer

“I think people really need to start living a disease-preventative lifestyle,” Eggert remarked, emphasizing the difficulties many face in prioritizing well-being.

Eggert was diagnosed with cribriform carcinoma in December 2023. She first noticed something was wrong in October when she felt a throbbing sensation in her breast and experienced sudden weight gain. After performing a self-exam and discovering a lump, she promptly sought medical attention.

By mid-October, she had a biopsy, and within weeks, she received her diagnosis. Despite the challenges of her situation, Eggert maintains a positive attitude.

“I believe it’s preventable,” she said, while also highlighting the importance of combining medical treatment with lifestyle changes. “There’s just so much more you can and should be doing.”

Experts agree with her proactive approach. The National Cancer Institute states that early detection through regular mammograms can lead to quicker treatment and better outcomes. Mammograms can catch issues early, potentially before they spread.

Eggert finds motivation in her proactive stance. “It keeps me sane… If you’re being proactive, it can really help,” she noted. This outlook is crucial not only for her mental well-being but also as a strategy in her fight against cancer.

Historically, breast cancer awareness has evolved significantly. In the early 20th century, the disease was often shrouded in stigma and misunderstanding. As awareness grew, campaigns like "Breast Cancer Awareness Month" began in 1985, helping to educate the public and encourage regular screenings.

Today, social media plays a crucial role in sharing personal health journeys, helping to reduce stigma and foster community support. Reactions to Eggert’s story reflect this shift; many users share similar experiences, reinforcing a collective dialogue about health and wellness.

Ultimately, Eggert’s message resonates beyond her own diagnosis. It serves as a reminder of the importance of vigilance, support, and proactive living in the fight against cancer.
