Columbia Softball Dominates Dartmouth: Secures Spot in Postseason Glory!

NEW YORK – It was an exciting day at Columbia Softball Stadium as the Columbia Lions triumphed against Dartmouth, winning both games of their doubleheader. The final scores were 5-4 and 9-8, with the second game going into extra innings.

With these wins, the Lions (22-16, 14-6 Ivy) secured their spot in the upcoming Ivy Tournament. Notably, Tatum Hubble stood out in game two, driving in three runs with three hits, while Eleni Katsivalis also made significant contributions with two RBIs.

On the mound, Jordan Hill (9-7) pitched a complete game in the first match, showcasing her skills and resilience. In the second game, Caylene Nguyen (4-0) played a crucial role, allowing just one run in 6.2 innings.

Dartmouth (17-20, 10-10 Ivy) faced a tough day on the field. Their starting pitcher, Jensin Hall (10-9), struggled, losing both games after pitching limited innings. Outfielder Alaan Panu was a bright spot for the Big Green, going 4-for-8 across both games, scoring four times and driving in five runs.

GAME 1 RECAP
Columbia struck first, thanks to an RBI single from Olivia Madkins that brought Juju O’Brien home in the second inning. Sarah Mikami then hit a home run, followed by a triple from Cami Neal. Despite a pitching change for Dartmouth, the Lions continued to score and built a 4-0 lead.

Dartmouth responded in the fourth with a run, but O’Brien’s RBI in the fifth allowed Columbia to stretch its lead to 5-1. The Big Green pushed back with a three-run home run from pinch hitter Georgia Bilski, narrowing the gap, but Hill managed to secure the victory for the Lions.

GAME 2 RECAP
In the second game, Emmy Davis started strong for Columbia. However, Panu’s opening homer put Dartmouth ahead early. The Lions quickly rallied and pulled ahead with a four-run first inning, highlighted by Hubble’s two-run single.

Dartmouth’s offense ignited in the fourth, scoring five runs, including another homer from Panu, flipping the score to 7-6 in their favor.

As both teams battled through the later innings, a critical error from Dartmouth allowed Columbia to tie the game in the bottom of the seventh. In the tense tenth inning, Panu’s single put Dartmouth back ahead, but the Lions surged back. With two runners on base and one out, Mikami drew a walk, leading to a series of misplays from Dartmouth that allowed both Mikami and Neal to score, sealing the win for Columbia.
