“British farming is facing the brunt of climate change,” says Rachel Hallos, vice president of the National Farmers’ Union. Recent weather patterns have led to the wettest 18 months on record, contributing to a challenging growing season. Agriculture in the UK has faced its second-worst harvest, resulting from heavy winter rains and unpredictable weather shifts.

Carrot farmer Rodger Hobson shared that the floods in winter 2023-24 wiped out 15% of his carrot crop. The previous year’s drought also cut yields significantly. “Farming is becoming more uncertain,” he noted, emphasizing the challenges posed by climate change on food production.
