DRDO and Indian Navy Successfully Test Indigenous Multi-Influence Ground Mine: A Leap in Naval Defense Innovation

Recent tensions between India and Pakistan flared up after a terror attack in Pahalgam, but the Indian Navy has made a significant stride in its defense capabilities. The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) successfully conducted a combat firing of the Multi-Influence Ground Mine (MIGM), a cutting-edge underwater naval mine.

This mine was developed by the Naval Science & Technological Laboratory in Visakhapatnam, with help from other DRDO labs in Pune and Chandigarh. The MIGM is specifically designed to counter stealth ships and submarines, crucial for bolstering the Indian Navy’s defense.

Defense Minister Rajnath Singh praised this achievement on social media, recognizing the efforts of DRDO, the Navy, and industry partners. With this new system, the Indian Navy is now better equipped for undersea warfare.

Dr. Samir V. Kamat, Secretary of the Department of Defence R&D and Chairman of DRDO, confirmed that the successful trial means the system is ready to be integrated into the Indian Navy.

Production partners like Bharat Dynamics Limited and Apollo Microsystems are on board, ensuring that this advanced technology moves from development to deployment swiftly. Importantly, such innovations not only enhance national security but also reflect India’s growing capabilities in defense technology.
