Exciting Update: Google Messages Introduces ‘Delete for Everyone’ Feature!

Google Messages for Android is about to become even more useful. Soon, you’ll be able to delete a group chat message for everyone. This feature, which some users have already spotted in beta, will show two options for deletion:

• Delete for everyone
• Delete for me

The “Delete for me” option is what we already have. The new feature allows you to actually remove a message that has already been sent to the group. However, Google warns that messages might still be visible to users with older app versions.

This change is part of Universal Profile 2.7, which enhances messaging capabilities. Users will now be able to edit, recall, and delete messages not just for themselves but for everyone in the chat. This brings a level of control that many have been looking for.

Interestingly, a user testing the beta reported that this option only appears in larger group chats, specifically one with 12 people. Smaller conversations or one-on-one messages don’t seem to have this feature yet.

Even though we checked today and didn’t see this option live on many devices, Google has plans for even more group chat improvements. Future updates might include features like joining groups via invite links, using QR codes, and @-mentions to tag people directly.

As messaging platforms evolve, privacy concerns become increasingly important. In a recent survey, 63% of users expressed a desire for better message control in group conversations. This move by Google reflects that demand. The ability to manage messages more effectively shouldn’t be overlooked as we communicate more online.
