Grambling, La. — The 2025 Commencement Ceremony at Grambling State University was an emotional celebration for graduates and honorees. Many attendees were moved by the inspiring words of actress and speaker Tabitha Brown.
University officials celebrated both the Class of 2025 and the Golden Graduates, who were the first to receive degrees under the university’s new name. Among those recognized was Alana Ward Robinson, honored for her doctorate and five decades of dedicated service to the university. Throughout her career, Dr. Robinson has led various university committees and spearheaded innovations in technology.
Dr. Robinson shared her journey, emphasizing the importance of confidence. “After 18 years at IBM and a successful tech career, my greatest pride is co-founding a technology company with my husband. I urge graduates to remain open-minded and believe in themselves,” she said.
LaNya Carter, a graduate and military service member, reflected on her journey of balancing motherhood and academics. She was among the first to use Grambling’s Child Development Center, which provided the support she needed.
“Having a child during my studies surprised many, but I persevered. I graduated with a 4.0 in my senior year and ranked among the top of my class,” Carter shared. She aims to inspire others, especially women facing similar challenges. “You can succeed,” she emphasized. Looking ahead, she plans to pursue a master’s degree in social work this summer.
This ceremony was not only a milestone for the graduates but also a reminder of the strength and resilience of the Grambling community. Events like this highlight the importance of education and support networks in shaping successful futures.
