Lynchburg, Va. — The University of Lynchburg track and field teams are gearing up for an exciting weekend at two crucial last-chance meets: the Lenoir-Rhyne Last Chance & Multi #1 Meet and the Widener Last Chance Qualifier.
Athletes Micah Leech and Margo Fox will compete in multi-events, aiming to secure spots at the upcoming NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships. These multi-events blend various running, jumping, and throwing disciplines, providing athletes a final opportunity to showcase their skills before the championships.
Margo made waves during the indoor season by breaking a program record in the women’s pentathlon with a score of 3,294 points at Shenandoah University. She shone at the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Championships, securing four top-10 finishes, including a title in the women’s long jump. Now, she’s focused on delivering strong performances in her second heptathlon of the outdoor season.
Micah also impressed at the ODAC Championships, finishing in the top six in four events and winning the men’s long jump. This meet marks his first multi-event since early February.
The men’s 4x100m relay team will also be competing, hoping to boost their ranking into the national top 16. Currently, they sit in 24th place, with a qualifying time of 40.81 seconds to aim for.
At Lenoir-Rhyne, keep an eye on Kacey Kelly and Demetri Hinton in the jumps, along with Kenzie Swicegood in the throws, and sprinters in both the 100m and 200m dashes.
In distance events, Hannah Edwards is set to compete in the women’s 800m run after clocking a personal best of 2:12.47 earlier this season. That time ranks as the second-fastest in school history, just behind Natalie Deacon. Other distance runners may use the Widener meet as a final tune-up before the NCAA Championships in Geneva, Ohio.
Weather conditions for Lenoir-Rhyne look pleasant, with temperatures in the 60s and low 70s, though there’s a chance of rain on Sunday. Meanwhile, forecasts at Widener University suggest a warm evening with highs reaching into the 80s.
