The new Minecraft Movie from Warner Bros/Legendary is off to a great start at the international box office. As of Thursday, it has pulled in $18.4 million across 55 foreign markets. This number doesn’t even include the Friday opening in China, which made waves with an impressive $6.6 million—marking it as the best opening for a Hollywood film this year.
In addition to China, the movie also opened in 19 other markets today, including the UK and Spain. Early estimates suggest it could reach around $90 million internationally, with domestic earnings expected to be over $80 million.
This film is catching attention in Europe, where school breaks are likely to boost ticket sales, even with the sunny weather. The Middle East has shown strong numbers too, generating $4.4 million since Monday due to early previews coinciding with Eid celebrations.
In Asia, the Minecraft Movie has taken the No. 1 spot, and it’s doing quite well in Latin America, too. It holds a 90% share of the top five titles in the region, marking the best debut of 2025 for Jack Black (not counting animated films). 3D screenings constitute 19% of the total box office there, showing how much audiences enjoy the immersive experience.
Mexico has been particularly enthusiastic. A fan event held last month brought great attendance. The film topped Thursday’s box office there with $1.9 million, outperforming other popular titles like Sonic the Hedgehog and Kung Fu Panda 4.
Germany launched the film with $1.7 million, capturing 56% of the market. This is the best opening so far this year, easily surpassing several prior hits. France also reported strong results, with an opening day of $1.3 million—22% higher than Sonic 2 and 25% more than Sonic 3.
Australia embraced the film as well, with a Thursday debut of $1.1 million, showing a strong 9% lead over The Super Mario Bros. Movie. Brazil also showed solid interest, debuting at No. 1 with $759,000.

- UAE: $1.6 million
- France: $1.5 million
- Saudi Arabia: $1.5 million
With its Friday launch in China, the film’s performance has exceeded expectations, and it took 30% of the box office during a busy release window. This remarkable start makes it the second biggest Hollywood import of the year, behind only some mega-hits like Godzilla x Kong and Deadpool & Wolverine.
As audiences around the world continue to react positively, it will be interesting to see how the numbers shape up over the weekend and beyond.
