A$AP Rocky Faces Trial: Allegations of Gunfire at Former Friend Amid Legal Turmoil

LOS ANGELES – Jury selection begins Tuesday for rapper A$AP Rocky. He faces serious charges for allegedly firing a gun at a former friend, which could lead to a lengthy prison sentence if he’s found guilty.

The 36-year-old artist has pleaded not guilty to two felony counts of assault with a semiautomatic firearm. His lawyer maintains that Rocky did nothing wrong.

A$AP Rocky is not just a musician; he’s also a fashion designer and actor. He has been in a long-term relationship with singer Rihanna, and they have two young sons together. It’s uncertain if Rihanna will show up to support him in court, and his attorney mentioned it’s unlikely.

Recently, Rocky was named one of the chairs for the upcoming Met Gala in May and is set to star in a film directed by Spike Lee alongside Denzel Washington. However, his future hangs in the balance with this trial. If convicted of shooting at his former friend in 2021, he could face up to 24 years in prison.

The judge overseeing the case, Mark Arnold, aims to select a jury quickly and has set limits on how long lawyers can question potential jurors. He emphasized that all defendants should be treated equally, regardless of their status.

Opening statements are expected to begin on Wednesday, and media cameras will be allowed in the courtroom during the trial.

Earlier this year, another judge decided that Rocky should stand trial based on evidence from a preliminary hearing. Testimony revealed that Rocky allegedly shot at Terell Ephron, a childhood friend, after a falling out. Ephron claimed that bullets grazed his knuckles during the incident on November 6, 2021.
