Abdul Carter Faces Foot Injury: NFL Draft Prospect Weighs Surgery Options, Says Agent

Abdul Carter, a standout pass rusher from Penn State, is among the top prospects for the 2025 NFL Draft. However, a recent medical evaluation poses some challenges for his draft position. At the Scouting Combine in Indianapolis, tests revealed that Carter has a stress reaction in his right foot, which might necessitate surgery. According to his agent, Drew Rosenhaus, opinions are mixed on whether surgery is required, and a decision will come soon.

If Carter opts for surgery, doctors will insert a screw in his foot, and he would be out for about eight weeks. Alternatively, he might skip the surgery and participate in his Pro Day to demonstrate that he can play without the procedure. His family and agents have been consulting with medical professionals to weigh the best option.

Despite this potential setback, Rosenhaus remains optimistic, asserting that he doesn’t expect this issue to affect Carter’s draft stock. After meeting with teams at the Combine, he believes Carter could still be the number one overall pick. Carter’s performance last season solidified his reputation; he leads all of FBS in tackles for loss and had impressive stats, including 66 pressures and 12 sacks for the Nittany Lions.

In addition to the foot issue, Carter has been dealing with a shoulder injury he sustained during the Fiesta Bowl against Boise State. He had planned to skip workouts at the Combine due to this injury but was hoping to train and show his skills at Penn State’s Pro Day on March 28.

Carter expressed confidence in his abilities, stating, “I feel like I’m the best player in the country, and the best player should be selected No. 1.” With his talent and determination, Carter remains a player to watch as the draft approaches.
