On Monday evening, Muskingum University in New Concord faced a serious situation as reports of an active shooter emerged. The local sheriff’s office quickly urged everyone to shelter in place while they assessed the situation.
The university’s website displayed a warning for staff and students, advising them of a potential shooter on campus. They were instructed to remain in place until further notice. The message read: “Possible shooting on campus has been reported. Please shelter in place until further notice. We will update the campus as soon as we know more.” At the same time, law enforcement advised people to steer clear of the area.
Concern grew as families of students from Jefferson County reached out to the sheriff’s office about the situation. Deputies were on the scene, but so far, there were no reported victims or suspects. The initial call came in around 6:30 PM local time.
Social media buzzed with posts from individuals concerned about the active shooter situation. Many pointed to Patton Hall, mentioning that the incident might be happening on the fourth floor, although this has not been officially confirmed.
One user on X, formerly known as Twitter, expressed their fears, saying, “Active shooter/shelter in place order at my Alma mater Muskingum University. I pray to god nobody gets hurt.” Another echoed the concern by stating, “There’s an active shooter situation at Muskingum University in New Concord, Ohio, and students have been instructed to shelter in place.”
