Activision has made a big announcement about Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 4. Upon launching alongside Pro Skater 3 on PS5 and PS4 this July, the game will not include the original’s free roam feature. The change follows fan speculation after noticing a new two-minute gameplay format mentioned in the PS Store description.
According to Kotaku, all levels in Pro Skater 4 will follow this two-minute challenge structure, which links back to the first three titles. Unlike the original version, which allowed players to explore the maps at their leisure, this update will push players to complete specific tasks within a set time frame. While players can still skate around and perform tricks, they won’t have the opportunity to tackle challenges in free skate mode.
This redesign of Pro Skater 4 feels like a departure from its legacy, particularly since it is seen as a step toward the evolution of the series with titles like Tony Hawk’s Underground on the horizon. Many fans feel disappointed by this shift in gameplay.
Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4 is set to drop on PS5 and PS4 on July 11, 2025. How do you feel about these changes? Whether you’re a long-time player or a newcomer, your thoughts are welcome in the comments.
