AESL is recognized as India’s foremost Advanced Metering Infrastructure Service Provider. Its goal is to install 2.5 crore smart meters across five Indian states. By installing 25,000 meters daily, AESL has set the industry benchmark for speed.
Kandarp Patel, the CEO of AESL, emphasized the significance of these smart meters. He described them as tools for consumers to access real-time data about their energy usage. This, in turn, leads to better grid reliability and reduced energy losses. Patel stated, “Our commitment is to support India’s digital energy transition.”
This milestone was reached ahead of AESL’s target of March 2026. It highlights the firm’s role in transforming retail electricity distribution in India as part of the government’s Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS). This initiative aims to replace 25 crore old meters with smart ones, modernizing the country’s power distribution.
The smart meters provide insights that enhance billing transparency and improve utility operations. AESL achieved the fastest installation rate by collaborating with other Adani Group companies. For instance, they partnered with Adani Esyasoft Smart Solutions and AdaniConneX to align on data handling and delivery timelines.
The shift to smart meters has broader implications. According to a recent survey by the International Energy Agency, countries implementing smart metering see a 10-20% reduction in energy consumption. This points to a positive trend not only for consumers but for the environment as well.
