Adani Solar Hits a Major Milestone
Adani Solar has made waves by shipping more than 15,000 megawatts (MW) of solar modules. This makes it the first Indian manufacturer to reach this impressive mark.
Out of these shipments, 10,000 MW went to customers in India, while 5,000 MW were exported overseas. To put it in perspective, that’s about 28 million modules, enough to cover nearly 7,500 football fields. Around 70% of these modules were produced using solar cells made in India. This aligns with the Make in India and Atmanirbhar Bharat initiatives, which aim to boost domestic manufacturing.
Looking ahead, Adani Solar plans to double its production capacity from 4,000 MW to 10,000 MW in the next financial year. They aim to ship another 15,000 MW soon after. This ambitious goal highlights their commitment to clean energy and energy independence in India.
According to a recent report by research firm Wood Mackenzie, Adani Solar stands out as the only Indian manufacturer in the world’s top 10 solar module producers. The report states that India’s solar manufacturing capability is set to exceed 125 GW by 2025. This is more than three times the domestic market demand of around 40 GW.
Interestingly, India’s solar sector has grown rapidly in the last decade. In 2014, India’s solar manufacturing capacity was just 2.3 GW. It is projected to reach 100 GW by 2025, with over 100 local manufacturers now in business. The first half of FY26 saw India’s solar exports increase by 20% year-on-year to $668 million. This demand is significant, especially from markets like the U.S., UAE, and Hungary.
Adani Solar also leads the rooftop solar market, supplying 1.78 GW of modules last year, which can power around 594,000 homes. They contribute 54% of the modules for the government’s Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, which aims to provide solar power to 10 million households by 2027.
With over half of India’s electricity now sourced from non-fossil fuels—five years ahead of its Paris Agreement target—India is on track to reach 500 GW of clean energy capacity by 2030. Adani Solar plays a crucial role in this shift, offering a full range of manufacturing from ingots to solar modules.
The impact of these efforts is significant: 5 million homes benefit from affordable solar energy, 2,500 green jobs have been created, and over 60 million tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions are avoided each year.
As India moves towards a more sustainable future, Adani Solar’s achievements highlight the potential for renewable energy to make a real difference.
